Home care services are a lifeline for many residents in Alberta, allowing them to maintain their independence and quality of life. Client-directed home care is all about putting the power back in the hands of the individual in the comfort of their own home. Regardless of age, health challenges, or physical ability, every Albertan has the right to steer the reins on their health journey.

Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) is a government-sponsored program for Albertans who require assistance with personal and home care needs during the day. To be placed on the invoicing model, you must first receive an assessment from Alberta Health Services.
The assessment is looking for the high-effort times of the day and the time required to complete them. Tasks like getting dressed in the morning and before bed, managing medication, preparing meals, eating, household chores, bathing, etc. After the initial assessment, you will receive allotted hours for care and respite services and a blue cross letter detailing your coverage.
Compassion's nursing team does not have a say in the initial AHS assessment, but we are an additional advocate for our patients in their ongoing care because care plans are subject to change. The initial assessment often covers the main areas of effort but may overlook the small details— that's where we come in.
To us, our patient's care is personal. Compassion's nurses take every concern seriously and diligently document them, no matter how small. Even the little things are big to us. We constantly communicate with patients and their families to ensure everyone feels heard. If something isn't right and they need more support, they need to tell us, and our team will collaborate with the family on a solution to revise the AHS care plan.
When Compassion's care team comes into a patient's home for our initial assessment, our care is tailored holistically to meet their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs. In the initial meeting, we encourage the immediate family to be present as well because that provides us with a greater understanding of the entire situation.
As long as everything is safe and reasonable, Compassion Network Home Care augments our care plan to fit the client's day. We want to maintain their daily routine and stay true to how they live their life. Client-directed home care is about what the client needs; we provide customized care dictated by the client and their family.
At Compassion Network Home Care, you have a say in your care; we want you to be involved. We view you as a whole, including your home, family, and even your pets. We love and appreciate every aspect of your life just as much as you do.
